Evocative, stylish and visually stunning, this gently anarchic first feature by the legendary Ken Russell is tremendous fun. Not much happens in the sleepy town of Gormleigh-on-Sea, so modish deckchair attendant Jim (James Booth) decides to stage a Cannes-style film festival with friends Henry (Roy Kinnear) and Judy (Alita Naughton). The town's uptight mayor is resistant - until he sees sexy, Bardot-like actress Françoise Fayol (Marisa Mell), who flounces over from France to open the shindig in truly continental style. Can these amateurs pull it off? How will Judy cope if Jim gets all hot under the collar about his glamorous new friend? Will Gormleigh survive its cultural renaissance?
