The Dead
Period & History • Drama, History, PG
Hollywood legend John Huston's extraordinary career culminated in a return to his ancestral homeland for this elegiac 1987 adaptation of James Joyce’s short story. This warm reverie of old Dublin, and the Irish heritage Huston treasured, was directed from his wheelchair, with the 80-year-old veteran plugged into an oxygen supply. Huston's daughter Anjelica stars as a dinner guest who reveals old secrets during an eventful Epiphany feast. The film was nominated for two Academy Awards—for Best Adapted Screenplay and for Best Costume Design.
