Cynical detective Leon Zat is slowly coming to terms with the fact that his marriage is beginning to disintegrate. Called upon to investigate the disappearance of a leading psychiatrist, Zat finds himself in a very interesting position - not least because his wife is one of the psychiatrist's patients... Compared to Short Cuts and Magnolia on its release, Ray Lawrence's sprawling, serpentine drama is one of the most acclaimed Australian films of the 21st century, and winner of numerous garlands including seven AACTA awards (the Australian Oscars).
